Week 2

The Word: 1 John 2:15-27

Believe it: Believers are anointed by God. They are filled with the Holy Spirit who is the anointing of God. Because of that, we are able to determine truth from falsehood and right from wrong. It is God’s power in us to stand strong for him.

Prayer: Pray for the discernment to obey God, and ask him to endow you with the power of the Holy Spirit both for now and at Overflow.

The Word: Ezekiel 36: 24-32

Believe it: Referring to the people of Israel, this text promises a time when God would give his people a heart of flesh replacing ones of stone. But this is also what the Lord does in Christians; taking away the old heart of stone and giving a more impressionable heart of flesh. The work of the Holy Spirit moves us to obey the Lord.

Prayer: Pray for personal openness to the Holy Spirit. Ask him to make your impressionable to his will.

The Word: Micah 6:1-8

Believe it: The call of God is to act right, love mercy, and walk humbly with God. Loving mercy requires the love of God to in our hearts. Mother Teresa is one who exemplifies this idea. She once said, “God has created us for great things: to love and offer love, to experience tenderness toward others, as He did, and to know how to offer Jesus to others. People are not hungry for us; they are hungry for God.”

Prayer: Ask God to make your life one that makes others hungry for God.

The Word: 2 Chronicles 7

Believe it: The Lord is interested in hearts which turn back to him. He is interested in people turning from where they are and facing him. Notice in verse 14 that it is God’s people that identified as the ones who ought to pray, and seek him.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to turn the churches in Ontario back to him, so that he might take notice of us and heal our land.

The Word: Jeremiah 29:1-7

Believe it: Just as the exiles that Jeremiah was writing to, believers in Christ are not at home but away from home. But there is still a responsibility to act as God’s children where we are before the Lord comes. And Jeremiah’s words are appropriate for us who are living out our Christian lives while we await the Lord’s coming.

Prayer: Pray for your province that the Lord would bless it, and believe that God is building his Church even in every community in this province.

The Word: Luke 19:41-44; Psalm 122

Believe it: Jesus prayed for the city of Jerusalem, and even wept over the predicament and hardness of the city. He took a stake in the place which was dearest to his heart. We too, need to take a stake in the communities that we live in. It is time to align ourselves again with the gospel priority and pray for our communities, weeping and fasting for God’s healing.

Prayer: Pray for your community.

The Word: Habakkuk 3:1-2

Believe it: This is the prayer of a history maker. This is the prayer of one who desires to see change “in our day.” The people of our province will not recognize the greatness of our God, until we do.

Prayer: Pray the prayer of Habakkuk.
